Screening of "IRON JAWED ANGELS"
September 29, 2004

As the election season gets down to the home stretch on this eve of the first Presidential debate, come gather with The Women's Mosaic to watch "Iron Jawed Angels". The HBO produced film is about the feisty young suffragettes, who from 1912 to 1920--when Congress finally passed the 19th amendment, granting American women the right to vote--worked 24/7, ruffled many feathers and were ultimately jailed for picketing a wartime president who was fighting for democracy abroad, while turning a blind eye here at home. [Description courtesy of Ruth Patkin/Cowgirl Media] This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other ladies of The Women's Mosaic while learning about a critical, powerful moment in the history of women and our country - and if you aren't already registered to vote it'll give you some pretty powerful motivation to do so!

We also had speaker Mary Lou Urban (top), Co-President from the NYC Chapter of League of Women Voters on hand to briefly talk to us about the history of women's voting rights and current voting issues...held at KANVAS in Chelsea
